V.33. When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. V.34. But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.
One of the most profound teachings that Jesus gave was this. He, dying on the cross, asks His Father to forgive those who are crucifying Him. His powerful witness to forgiving others is to be modeled in our lives toward those who sin against us. We are unable to do this without Christ. Through Him we are forgiven and those who sin against us can be forgiven when we ask Him!
