WOMEN IN DISCIPLESHIP (sm)
WALK OF GRACE My Spiritual Service of Worship
WEEK ONE -- GRACE
DAY FIVE
SING: Come, Let Us Worship and Bow Down (Hymnal #14)
1. What do you think "your spiritual service of worship" means in this verse?
Paul urged the Roman believers to present themselves to God, so they could experience the joy of living in the light of Christ.
2. Consider the following contrasts in light of this verse, and write your thoughts.
Living vs dead Holy vs wicked Sacrifice vs self-serving Acceptable vs unacceptable Spiritual vs fleshly Service vs work Worship vs hatred Believer vs unbeliever 3. From Hebrews 13:15, what are we encouraged to do as believers?
The writer of Hebrews said to continually offer praise to God, with thanksgiving. How can we live a life of continual praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God? We cannot! But Jesus can through us. Galatians 2:20 says, "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me."
4. What does Galatians 2:20 mean to you in light of the fact that you are part of the "brethren"?
Offering "spiritual service of worship" to God is possible because of Jesus' life within us. We live by faith every day understanding that on our own we are unable to appropriately worship God, but by faith we can allow the life of Christ to live through us in every area.
APPLICATION: Think about the different areas of your life. Where are you trying to serve God in your own strength? Yield those areas to Christ, and ask Him to strengthen your faith in His life living in you by His grace.
SING:Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee (Hymnal #1)
CONCLUSION
The free gift of unearned, unmerited favor in salvation came through Jesus Christ and His death on the cross for us. We now have an unbreakable friendship with God and are united forever with Christ. Because of Jesus, the barrier of sin has been removed for all eternity, and we have fellowship with God,. We can come into His presence continually to receive grace upon grace. (Heb. 4:16) We are released from the bondage of sin and set free to live in the light of Christ. We recognize that our sin nature is dead, and now Christ lives in us. Our gratitude to God and the joy of our salvation lead us to praise, worship, and thank Him. We rejoice in Him for His grace lavished upon us!
PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for my salvation. I praise your holy name! Help me to remember that my highest calling is to worship you. I want to be devoted to loving you more and more through my "spiritual service of worship." May your Holy Spirit teach me more about these truths, so that I can honor you with every breath, thought, and action of my life. I pray this in the name of Jesus, my Savior. Amen.
