DAY FOUR
- Read Joshua 2:15-24. After Rahab finished pleading with the spies, they agreed to do as she asked provided they made it safely back to their camp. How did Rahab help them escape?
In Edith Deen's book, "All The Women Of The Bible," she states the following:
"This ancient 'City of Palms,' as it was known, was surrounded by two walls. According to recent archaeological findings, there was a space of twelve to fifteen feet between them. Houses of sun-dried brick were built over the gap between the two walls and supported by timbers laid from one wall to the other, or by small cross walls of brick. Rahab's house was in one of these strategic points, and her window looked on the outer wall." (p.65) - What did Rahab suggest the spies should do when they left? (v.16)
- What were the men's instructions to Rahab as part of their bargain? (vv.17-18)
- According to verses 22-24, did the men do as Rahab suggested?
- What did the two spies report to Joshua about their trip?
The scene was now set for the next step of faith for Joshua and the nation of Israel. Rahab was ready for the disaster that would come to her city. She informed her family of the pledge that she swore with the two men of Israel. They gathered in the house and waited.
LESSONS AND APPLICATIONS
- God desires for His people to keep their promises, just as He does. What promise have you made that you are keeping today? Do you need to confess a broken promise to someone and try to make it right?
- God provides a way of escape even in times of great distress. What means of escape has the Lord shown you for a difficult situation you're in right now? Will you take it?
