WOMEN IN DISCIPLESHIP (sm)
WOMEN OF FAITH BLESSEDNESS OF BELIEVING
WEEK SEVEN Tabitha (Dorcas) Lois and Eunice
INTRODUCTION
As we embark on the last lesson in our series of Women Of Faith, we'll look into the lives of three women who were devout in their faith in Jesus Christ. Through Tabitha's deeds, we see her complete and active faith. In Lois and Eunice, we'll find an example of faithfulness in spite of adverse circumstances.
As you begin, remember to ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with His wisdom so you can experience the joy of active faith today.
DAY ONE
Tabitha (Dorcas)
- Read Acts 9:36-43. Describe Tabitha from verse 36.l
- Luke, the author of Acts, called Tabitha a disciple. Look up the following verses, and explain who a true disciple is.
Matthew 28:18-20: John 13:34-35: Acts 11:25-26:
The NASV describes Tabitha as "abounding with deeds of kindness and charity." (Acts 9:36)
ABOUNDING (#4134) "Pleres" Meaning: full, filled, abundant. (Lexicon, p.1867)
- Look up the following passages and describe what Tabitha was filled with.
John 15:5, 8: Galatians 5:22-23: Philippians 1:11:
Tabitha was abounding first of all in her faith in Jesus Christ her Lord. For her to have been kind and charitable apart from being filled with Christ Jesus would have yielded her nothing. Only the things a person does that are of God will last throughout eternity. Jesus is the Life-Giver, the Holy Spirit is the Enabler, and God is the Overseer. Tabitha put action to her abounding faith, as we see in verse 36. Her demonstration of deeds and charity came from an abiding love for her LORD!
KINDNESS (#18) "Agathos" Meaning: useful, good, benevolent, doer of good. (Lexicon, p.1796)
CHARITY (#1654) "Eleemoseme" Meaning: mercy which becomes part of a person's character. (Lexicon, p.1830) 4. After reading these definitions, how do you see these two traits working together in Tabitha's life?
LESSONS AND APPLICATIONS
We can only abound in good works by faith in Jesus Christ. Are you abounding in good works today? Why or why not?
Acts of kindness and charity are a love offering to God because of salvation in Jesus Christ. What are you offering to others out of love for Christ?
