    DAY THREE

    Lois and Eunice

Timothy was a young convert of Paul's. He lived in Lystra, which is located in modern Turkey. Timothy was born into a family of mixed race and mixed religions. His grandmother and mother were Jews; his father was Greek. We will see how the faith of these two women impacted Timothy's life in a profound way.

As you study, ask the Holy Spirit to encourage you in your daily prayer time, study time, and lifestyle to be continually aware of God's leading in applying your faith in Jesus to everyday circumstances and decisions. Let's make all of these lessons count for Christ in our lives today!

    1. Read Acts 14:8-23. Who do you suppose became believers during this first missionary journey of Paul and Barnabas? Read Acts 16:1. On Paul's second missionary journey he returned to Lystra, and who did he find?

    2. Who also became a believer according to verse 1?

    3. Read Acts 16:1-5. How was Timothy viewed by the Christians in Lystra and Iconium? (v.2)

    4. Why do you suppose Paul circumcised Timothy? Why do you think he wasn't circumcised already?

    5. Read 2 Timothy 1:1-7. What confirmation did Paul give of Timothy's mother and grandmother? (v.5)

    6. Paul mentions that these women and Timothy had a "sincere faith." Look up the following verses and describe what that means.
      Hebrews 11:1-3:
      Romans 12:9-21:

    7. For Timothy to have been received by Paul as a "beloved son" (2 Tim. 1:2), what kind of teaching and model must Timothy have had from his mother and grandmother?
      Proverbs 4:11:
      Proverbs 22:6:

    LESSONS AND APPLICATIONS

    1. Mothers and grandmothers who sincerely pray for their children will see fruit in their own walk of faith. Who in your family prayed for you or is praying for you?

    2. The walk of faith leads to depth of character and ministry to others. What can you do today by faith to encourage a family member?
