DAY THREE
- Read Luke 2:21. What took place on the eighth day?
(Lev. 12:1-3; Luke 1:59)
A woman was considered unclean for seven days after giving birth. On the eighth day she was to bring the child to the temple to be circumcised according to the Law. At the circumcision the child would be named.
- Read Luke 2:22-38. Where did Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus travel for this event?
- Was verse 23 true of Jesus?
(Ex.13:2, 12; Num. 3:13, 8:17)
- Who did God send to Mary and Joseph to confirm their miraculous child, and what did he say about Jesus? (Luke 2:25-32)
- How did Mary and Joseph respond to Simeon in verse 33?
- From verses 34-35, what do we learn about Jesus' future? How do you suppose Mary and Joseph felt about this prophecy?
- Who else was present at this circumcision that God honored? (Luke 2:36-38)
- Describe Anna from these verses.
From the moment of the angel's visit to Mary, she was continually being encouraged by God's confirmations in her life. She visited with Elizabeth and was encouraged. She married Joseph and heard of his experience with the angel. The shepherds came to tell her the great news of proclamation in the field. Then God sent Simeon and Anna to confirm yet again the great news of Jesus as Messiah and Savior. This news was not all filled with joy, however. Some sadness and wonder came with it, and Mary continued to ponder and treasure all these things in her heart.
